Get to Know Our Founders: Vytautas Danta

Please meet Vytautas (Vito) Danta, a seasoned professional with a proven track record in both traditional and fintech banking.

What inspired you to create the European Compliance Professionals Association?

"I was inspired to contribute to its creation as soon as it was possible to gather well-known professionals in this field. Each of them will be able to bring together compliance professionals from various sectors - finance, financial crime prevention, data protection, competition, anti-corruption and others. We have a very large professional community that needs to be brought together and represented. In Lithuania we have over 10 000 experts in the field of compliance, of which more than 7 000 specialize in financial services, banking, and related sectors within the financial domain. Today, new members of the community do not know what to expect from this profession, what is the possible career path, what is the fair reward. Employers also lack information about existing specialists in the market and how to improve their competences. The ECPA wants to address these issues."

How can the association contribute to raising awareness and promoting compliance best practices in Europe?

"Since the Lithuanian government set itself an ambitious vision to become a fintech hub, Vilnius has witnessed rapid growth in the number of fintech companies. Currently, there are more than 200 fintech companies licensed in Lithuania and operating in a wide array of areas, including international payment and remittance services, digital banking, online investments, peer-to-peer lending, crowdfunding, and more. With a large number of companies operating around the world and their employees, we have a great opportunity to work together and develop joint practices, develop competencies and thus significantly contribute to the development of this profession in the EU region."

What do you believe are the most important qualities for a successful compliance professional?

" A successful compliance officer must be:

➡ Organised and thorough - who performs his work according to established plans, sets himself high quality standards, can coordinate an important project when necessary and complete the work on time.

➡ Excellent communicator who maintains professional relationships both inside and outside the institution. It is very important to learn about innovations and changes in time in order to respond to them properly, for example - new legislation, a new product. A good relationship is very important and helps later in dealing with serious incidents.

➡ Constantly improving - interested in innovations, actively contributing to their creation, not afraid to take initiative and new areas of responsibility. "
